One of my favorite things to do when preparing for the holidays is to design our Christmas cards. I love sending and receiving cards. Every year I keep the cards we get and look back on them to see how our friends and family have changed. This year I have looked at many sites to see what card fits our family. Shutterfly photo has the best designs and prices. I love the classic looks and the fun ones. Their site is very user friendly and lets you use your photos in many cards to preview. My favorite card is the flat 2 picture Peppermint Dots one. I love being able to use more than one picture. I have a family picture and a picture of the girls with Santa that I could use in this one.
Or maybe the Snow Globe card to use with our Fall beach picture.
I have purchased many photo books from them and love how I have scrap booked the year through the books. Their products are high quality. My pictures that I have mail ordered have had great finish too. This year I am also interested in the very affordable desk calendars. I know Josh would love this for his desk and it makes a great stocking stuffer for him.
And while we are talking about cards, I can't belive RJ's first birthday will be here in a few short months. I am excited about making her birthday card invitations. Can't you just picture her taking a bite out of her first cake wearing a little birthday hat on the front of the card?

Riley Jane is 3 months old

Riley Jane is three months old now. She seems very laid back and happy most all the time. We love our "Riley Roo," as Lydia calls her, so much. She weighs over 15 lbs and over 23 inches. She is long and quickly outgrew much of her 3month clothing in length. She sleeps very well at night about 10-11 hours each night. She takes short naps throughout the day. She smiles and likes to coo in unison with me. She loves watching her big sister entertain her and gets very excited to see her. She has made us so happy from the first moment we knew she was joining our life. Enjoy the pics of our precious Riley Jane.

We were thrilled to attend a little Easter Egg Hunt at a nearby church in my neighborhood. Jack, Reese and Zoe came along for the Bunny Fun. Lydia found the egg with the GRAND PRIZE- a gift card to Toys R Us! There were sweet baby animals to pet- bunnies, pig, goats, lambs, and dogs. But Lydia's favorite part was hanging out with her new buddy, the Easter Bunny! What a fun Easter this is for us with our two sweet girls!

Welcome Riley Jane

Welcome baby sister and second daughter to our family! We love you so much and are so glad you arrived today on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. You weigh 8 lbs 7 oz and are 21 inches long! You have made your daddy, me and big sister so proud!

Granddaddy wrote you a letter today as he visited us at the hospital! Your whole family is so glad to you came today!

There’s been quite a bit of excitement in our family since Tuesday. How have you been able to sleep through so much of it?

Your big sister was so excited to make the trip to the hospital that she didn’t eat all her bagel for breakfast. Your Grandmommie was so excited, she couldn’t keep up with one of her earrings. Your dad was so excited that on a scale of 1-10, he registered somewhere around 15. Oh, we were all excited!

Surely you’ve noticed the series of friendly faces that have paraded before you since you arrived. Several of the same faces appear and reappear, each time reflecting joy and love.

That’s us. We’re your family and friends.

We’ve been holding your reservation for several months. Now we are delighted to have you finally check in. Make yourself at home in the accommodations of our hearts.

We’ve counted your fingers and toes and recorded your weight and length. We’ve studied your appearance and imagined something of ourselves in your chin or the tilt of your face or shape of your profile.

We’re anxious to get to know you better and have you become acquainted with us.

I was holding your sister in my arms, and she was munching on candy while we were waiting to intercept you on your way to the nursery. (By-the-way, your sister won’t be 3 till next month, but she seemed to grow much bigger last Tuesday.) When the hospital speakers played the recorded lullaby, I told your sister that they were playing the melody in honor of you. I told her you would be coming down the hall very soon. Then she replied, “She’ll eat all my candy.”

Despite that quip, though, she’ll be happy to share with you.

In fact, we’ll all be happy to share with you. We’ve got plenty of love to go around and we’ll bestow lots on you.

We’ll help lead you through this wonderful experience of life. Perhaps by sometimes following in our footsteps, you will be better equipped to make your own footprints at other times.

Cut back on that napping as soon as you can, Little One. You’ll want to be fully awake to enjoy the experiences that are awaiting you.

Then, too, there will likely be some bumps along the way. You may fall off your bike—even with training wheels. You may indeed eat more than your share of your sister’s candy. Be assured, though, that we will be there to help you when you make mistakes.

The story of your birth came to a conclusion Tuesday. We’ll tell you all about it later. In the meantime, you’ve begun other chapters in your life’s saga.

A Quick Peek Into Baby Riley Jane's Room

I was excited to use the same bedding that Lydia had for RJ's room. I am looking forward to bringing her home to her new little room. Although we used the same furniture and bedding as we did with Lydia, we painted the walls a different color and used browns for the drapes this time. My cousin Kenzi painted the tree behind her bed. (**the small two squares on the wall are reflections from the mirrors)

Showers of Love for Riley Jane

We have been so blessed with great friends that have showered Riley Jane with lots of baby essentials. I have loved opening each gift and putting them away ready for her arrival in the coming month. Here are some highlights from a shower my girlfriends gave me and from another shower given by Josh's sweet school staff.

Melissa, Tonya and Valerie hosted my friends' shower. Valerie was unable to be there because she was at home with a sick little one. These girls sure do take care of me! I love them so much.

My mom, sis and mother-in-law are going to be a big help with the girls in the coming months!

Nana got Lydia a beautiful spring dress that she opened at the shower.

It was great to have my old college roomates Shannon and Kim to celebrate with me at the shower. Kim is also due in a few more weeks. I am so thrilled to have our two so close in age. Aiden will be a close buddy for Riley!!!

Josh's school showered us with a lot of gifts and a money tree. I have gotten to know the staff pretty well over the last two years that I substitute taught there.

Getting Ready to be a Big Sister

We are all very excited to bring baby Riley Jane home from the hospital the end of March. I can't wait to have another little girl to watch grow and change. I know Lydia will be a great big sister. She loves talking to Riley and praying for her everyday. She tells me quite often what all Riley will and won't be able to do when she gets here. In preparation for her arrival, we took Lydia to the Medical Center's Big Sister Class last night. She was so cute holding her baby doll and listening attentively on our tour of the nursery, waiting room and mommy postpartum room. She also made sure she was front and center when the nurse talked about tips on helping with little siblings. She is so proud already of Riley and I can't wait to watch her beam the first time she sees her little sister!!! They will be best friends for life!

Another Snow Day- January 30, 2010

Lydia loved the snow that came the last week of January. Josh got a sled out of the shed that he and his sister had when they were little. It was still in mint condition, since we don't have many opportunities to sled these days. She had a good time having daddy pull her around! And we loved having daddy home from school.

Lydia loved Christmas this year, after opening gifts she would always say, "oh, my I love it! Thank you everybody." And I believe she was really sincere, her love for being with family and friends and recieving and giving gifts was very evident. It was so nice to experience Christmas through her eyes too. She is one blessed little girl, and we are blessed to have her in our lives each and every day!!! The Polar Express is one of my favorite books.

I loved reading it to my first graders and was so excited to take them on a class trip to see the movie when it came out. The movie is so well done and seeing it on the big screen was so memorable! Lydia has been watching the movie this week and seems very interested in it and trains this week. Tonight we went to the Historic L & N Train Depot in BG to load the train and listen to a reading of the book.

Zoe and Lydia had a great time looking at the trains in the depot and listening to the reader. Santa was on the train as we exited, but the girls were not to interested in his company! But they did take a bell for a souvenir.

Dress up is probably Lydia's favorite activity- we go through so many dresses, heels, beads, and purses each day! Luckily, her friends love to dress up too when they come to visit. As soon as Lydia's pal Zoe came in the door today she went straight for the dress basket! They sure did look cute!

This weekend Lydia, along with Papa, Nana and I, went to Josh's school fall festival. This is a picture of a proud, sugar-filled Lydia after we got home. She absolutely LOVED having a kitten painted in PINK, her favorite color, on her face at Daddy's school. I believe that she now thinks that Daddy goes to a big play place everyday.

We are having another GIRL!!!! The Lord has fully blessed us once again with a sister for Lydia. I am looking forward to watching Lydia and her sister grow up as the best of friends. I know how special a sister is and am so glad that Lydia will get to have one that she can share clothes and secrets with.

I am 17 weeks along in my pregnancy. I went to Precious View to get a gender prediction ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and they are pretty sure that it is a girl. Dr.B will do an ultrasound on Nov. 12, so we will get another look. But for now, I am going to agree with Precious View and think of girl names!! My parents, sister, Josh and Lydia got to go with me to the ultrasound. It was really nice to share that moment with them. I can't wait to bring her home from the hospital in March!!!

Jackson's Orchard

We went to Jackson's Orchard with my sis and her kids a couple of Sunday's ago. I don't advise us locals to go on the weekend- it was packed full of kids! But nonetheless, Lydia loved being with her cousins and having a good ol' Pumpkin time!

Water, Sand, Relaxation and FUN

We had the most wonderful trip to Destin during Josh's Fall Break this October. We loved the family time, hot weather, beautiful ocean, fun sand, eating out at cool places, and being with close friends like the Deaton's. Special Week

This has been the most special week. First off, I was so excited that one of my best friends Valerie gave birth to the most handsome little boy, Luke. I have so enjoyed the anticipation of his arrival with my friend. We have spent a lot of time gabbing over the past months about how much baby #2 would change both our lives (for the better). Even though, I am only 14 1/2 weeks along in my pregancy, it was nice to have 3+ months to share another pregnancy with my close bud. Luke is a doll. I have loved holding him and seeing all his precious newborn expressions as he sleeps and cries. Welcome to the world Prince Luke, I can't wait to get your little playmate here to meet you in six months! I am so happy for Matt, Valerie and big sis Zoe- they have one sweet party of 4 now!!!

Last night Lydia had a great time in Nashville with her Nana & Papa and her daddy and me. We went to Disney on Ice. I had never seen an ice performance before. Lydia kept her eyes glued and never got bored. Josh went when he was little and had a really good time with his buddy Melissa. Too bad Melissa couldn't have brought her boys with us this time- We will have to plan that next time! Lydia said Minnie was her favorite!!! Since it was opening night we got tickets at the $8 discount price, which was a steal!!! It was a fantastic show! It is showing in Nashville though this Sunday.

We had our first u/s today by Dr. B. He said everything looked great and heart was beating perfectly. Baby measured 8 weeks and 4 days.

Our Little Flower Girl

Lydia was a flower girl this month for some dear friends of ours in Georgetown. They had their wedding in a beautiful church on Asbury College campus. It was a gorgeous day and lovely location. Lydia did a good job, got a bit stage fright from the many stares as she made her entrance, but finally made it all the way down the very long aisle. She was so sweet and loved watching Kristen and Alex say their vows. You could see in Lydia's eyes that she believed it was a real live fairy tale she was witnessing. We were so honored that they included our Lydia in their special day.

Gatlinburg Fun

We had a great 7 day vacation in Gatlinburg a couple of weeks ago. We saw 5 bears along the way and enjoyed Dollywood, hiking, eating out and shopping. I think we take G'burg for granted sometimes because it is so convient to go there, but it is such a beautiful place and fun adventure for everyone of all ages. Seeing it through a toddler's eyes is amazing, especially when she yells from the backseat for the hundredth time " look a mountain"- priceless!

A Camping We Will Go...

We went camping this past weekend in Lexington at the KY Horse Park. We totally recommend it. This was our first time there. We lived within a 10 min drive distance from the park for six yearsand never camped there, but knew of several people that had so we wanted to try it out because we had been invited to some fun festivities in Gtown this past weekend. The weather was perfect and even got really cool on Sunday night. We arrived on Saturday and left Monday night around 5pm. If you are looking for a FUN and CHEAP vacation, this is the place for you. They have one of the nicest pools I have ever been in and plenty of activities: basketball courts, sand volleyball, tennis, etc. There is a store/gift shop that has everything from fire wood to soft serve frozen yogurt, there is also Shaved Ice trucks set up and golf carts to rent too. I saw a lot of people riding bikes from young to old, so you can probably rent those too. The bath houses were really nice too.

"Tent Sweet Tent"- home away from home! We were all nestled between too trees, which gave us plenty of cool shade.

Anna Pryor came to visit Lydia's new place, along with her Mommy, Daddy and baby brother Collin.

Nothing like cooking your own hotdog and picnic food.

Lydia was all smiles the whole weekend. She loved the trip. Our first night, she kept giggling in the tent, she thought it was so neat and then she woke up the next morning and kept hugging us, a sure testimony of a happy camper!

It was nice to get away from the tv, computer, etc life and enjoy outdoor stuff. Here is Lydia and Daddy blowing bubbles after playing hard at the playground.

The playground equipment was meant for bigger aged kids, but with help, she got to do some fun stuff- the slides were huge!

On Monday night when it was time to close up our area and put down the tent, Lydia was not finished with her 3 hr. nap- she had played and swam hard that morning. We deflated the air bed and she kept sleeping in it, so then we needed to take down the tent and she kept sleeping, so we just moved her outside under the tree while we took the tent down.

Still "One Happy Camper." It was a great trip!

I didn't take as many photos as I usually do on trips, we were really busy. On Sat. night, Lydia got to see our beautiful July bride, Kristen, at her shower. Lydia enjoyed helping her open her presents. Lydia will be her flower girl in 3 weeks! We had a great time visiting with our friends from church on Sunday and eating out with them. It was great to have some friends pop over to our campsite for a little bondfire fun too. Also, on Monday night we got to see my old school team that I taught with. We had a great time visiting with my old crew and their children. We had a lot of toddlers and babies running around at the S.C. Park. I miss them all so much. It was so great to be with my old Church Family and School Family.

Strawberry Pickin'

I remember pickin' strawberries with my mom when I was little and how good they tasted with some powdered sugar on the side when I came in from playing outside with my siblings on a hot summer day. I also remember going to my Ma and Pa's house to pick blackberries and how black my fingers would get, but it was well worth it!!

I remember my mom putting her hair back in a bandanna and sweating through the job of picking berries just to give her family a nice desert treat. Now here I am in my early 30s, trying to give my daughter the same memory. I didn't sweat and work nearly as hard as my mom would, I didn't take Lydia to a family berry location and I didn't wear my hair tied back in a bandanna.

BUT, we did get to pick some wonderful strawberries!!! YUMMO! We traveled to a place right outside of our state line and along with Lydia and her 2 year old buddies, we got to see berries ripe and ready to be picked. Lydia was the first to jump in and pick the first berry and put it in her basket, however she decided very soon that she would rather pick the flowers and play with weeds and sticks...then we had a fun 2 year old meltdown and were ready to call it a day! Thankfully, a trip to McDonalds saved the day!!! We will try it again and just maybe.... I will wear a bandanna!

Happy Birthday to my sweet 2 year old Lydia Ann. I can't believe how fast two years have gone by. Her birthday was a few weeks ago on April 23. We celebrated with an Elmo party at the park. She loved having her Papa drive her up on his bike and be suprised at all the friends and family that were waiting for her! She had a great time celebrating and playing with everyone!

She is our sweet baby girl, although she is now more of toddler than a baby. She has a very lively personality that is always ready to meet someone new and explore places around her. She is so funny and loves to dance, sing and read! Elmo and Belle are her favorite characters. She loves any book, picture, doll or movie with either one of them. I can't believe how much she talks and says anything she wants too now. I am daily reminded of the true gift she is to us! We love her so very much and that love is always growing!!

Today was a special day and a great way to start off Lydia's birthday week. Lydia got to meet Elmo and his creator Kevin Clash. Elmo was so kind to take time with Lydia and other boys and girls in our area to talk one-on-one with them. First we got to hear Kevin talk about his new book and what it was like being the voice behind Elmo and then him and Elmo answered some questions. After having some individual picture and greeting time with Elmo, we then stood in line to get a Elmo book autographed by Elmo and Kevin. They were both so kind! Lydia absolutely loved it! She smiled from ear to ear the whole time! Clifford the Big Red Dog was also there at the bookfest but Lydia didn't much care for his largeness! Thursday Lydia will be celebrating her 2nd birthday with an Elmo/Sesame St. theme. She sure does love that red monster!!!

Playing Catch Up

Wow, I haven't blogged for 2 and half months! So I have lots of catching up to do! The last time I blogged it was a cold and snowy January- much like today, except it is cold, snowy and APRIL!!! Well that's KY weather for you!

As far as updates, our family of 3 is enjoying each day that comes at us. Josh just had a 2 week Spring Break and returned today. We loved having Daddy home with us for those two weeks. We tried to relax as much as possible and do special things for Lydia. We went to the park, library, shopping, out to eat, and Imagination Station. We also visited with both sets of her grandparents and even got to see some Great-Grandparents.

We have celebrated a lot of birthdays lately- Jameson turned 5, Ally turned 4, Paul turned 1, and Brayden, Zoe, and Reese turned 2. Lydia really got into celebrating with yummy cake and helping her cousins and friends open fun gifts. Her birthday is right around the corner- April 23! Big 2 here we come!!!

Right now Easter has been on the mind. She has visited the Easter Bunny or "Rabbit" as she calls him/her at the Mall. She won't sit in his/her lap but did manage to give them "high five" and "rock." So hopefully the Easter Bunny will still pay us a visit next Sunday. We went to Grandmommie and Graddaddy's town for a Easter Hunt on Sat. and she loved hunting and putting eggs in her basket.

I have gotten to substitute teach a lot at Josh's school in the Elementary part (he is in the Middle School part) since last time I blogged. I have really enjoyed getting back into teaching and seeing what is going on in the classrooms and getting new fresh ideas. Also, I am subbing at our church pre-school too when needed. We are really fortunate that Lydia gets to have time with Nana and Papa while I go out and make some extra money and get to do something I love so much one day a week.

We are looking forward to warmer weather when we can play outside with our friends more at the parks. And of course, we can't wait until pool days and going out without bundling up first!!!

Lydia is finally letting me put her hair up in pigtails! It has been such a battle in the past that I finally gave up on trying. Last weekend, Lydia's cousin Ally was visiting and had her hair in pigtails and I tried it with her here. Lydia was so excited to have hair that matched her cousin and now all I have to do is say the magic words, "Let's put your hair in pigtails like Ally" and it works!! I think she looks like such a big girl!

Oh You Better Not Pout!

I am working on addressing my Christmas cards this week. I love sending Christmas cards every year. I keep all my cards from previous years and look at them when I unpack the decorations. It is so nice to see friends' families who are close and those who are far and see how their family changes each year.

This year I was excited to get some pictures of Lydia made for our Christmas card. Nana bought Lydia a beautiful dress with a red sash for Christmas. I had high hopes of getting a picture of ALL 3 of us to send out this year. Josh and I were coordinating so well with our baby girl and I just knew we could get atleast one decent one of us all together. Well here is a preview:

Needless to say, the card that will be mailed out will only have Lydia. She decided that we didn't need to be in the picture with her! I am sure that we will cherish this picture (as Melissa D. suggested we keep it) and there will be many more photo moments like this with her and future children.

Halloween Happenings

Lydia enjoyed her 2nd Halloween. She got to trick-or-treat with her cousins to the homes of her Great-Grandparents and Grandparents on Thursday. Then on Friday we enjoyed Trunk-or-Treating with our church family!

Lydia seemed to get so tickled seeing her friends and cousins all dressed up. Her favorite thing was to give candy back to the givers in "their" bowls. She was a very sweet princess and enjoyed wearing her costume, which will be great for dress up throughout the year!

Today Lydia turns a YEAR and a HALF!!!! WOW!!! Where has the time gone? She is becoming so independent as she grows. She is talking a lot and into everything. She loves Elmo, Barney, books and puzzles. She loves being outside, going to the park, swinging, walking/running and playing. She continues to be our bundle of JOY! Jackson Orchard Fun with Friends and Family

There are so many wonderful things about Fall. This is my favorite season! I love visiting the pumpkin patches and orchards and being outside. Melissa planned a fun day for Lydia's buddies at Jackson's orchard this month. We had a fun time with our buddies and were very glad Lydia's cousins, Jameson and Ally could join us!

Chattanooga Trip

Nana and Papa took us to a Chattanooga for a couple of days during Josh's fall break. This was a great trip for Lydia (and us) because we got to go to the excellent Creative Discovery Museum and the cool Tennessee Aquarium. Check out the links to these places for a fun getaway idea for the family. There was so much to do and the museum had a whole area targeted for toddlers. We spent a long time at these places and Lydia was very engaged (as much as a toddler can be that is). There are several attractions in Chattanooga that I wasn't aware of and can see us going back in the future. If you haven't been there, try it out sometime! We had a great time! Georgetown Visit

The last weekend of September, we traveled up to Georgetown to be with our good buddies and visit our favorite Orchard: Evans' Orchard. This was an orchard that Josh and I both had taken many school trips to, so it was extra special to take Lydia. There were many different slides of all sizes, playground areas, camel rides, horse rides, petting farm, tractor trike course, pumpkins, hay castle, corn maze, dirt mounds to climb with ropes, apple pies, apple slushies, and tractor rides through the orchard. Two of my best buddies who were on my first grade team (bottom row) Missie and Laura came with their little boys. Lydia loved seeing them- each of these three kiddos are exactly 6 months apart- talk about something in the water at our school- we were "maternity leave central." Also we were glad to see Anna Pryor and her new baby brother, Collin (top row). My best bud Courtney just had Collin a couple of weeks ago and I was so excited to meet him! We even got to go to the "Festival of the Horse" which is held in downtown Georgetown. Our old church had a booth set up and we got to see lots of our church friends. The sweet twins are Jason and Evan. My friend Erica (to the right of me) is doing a great job as a mommy of twins. Her sister Kristen (to the left of me) is getting married in July and Lydia is going to be her flower girl. We are so excited. It is going to a beautiful wedding. We had a great trip and always look forward to going back!

He will travel to a different country each month to help those who are lost spiritually and in need physically. At Grandmommie and Granddaddy's, playdates are always fun with her five cousins.

Since I haven't blogged in awhile, I am posting some fairly new pics of Lydia and her best buds! Most of these pictures are copied from other friends. I have such talented photographer friends, that I just had to blog some of their pics! Also, my camera's battery died today as I began taking pictures at the park. (Thanks to Heather for some great action photos of our angels)

Lydia just loves playing with her buddies. They are so sweet. Today I even caught her and a buddy holding hands. Her friend helped pick her up and they walked through the playground hand and hand. I, too, am extremely fortunate to have friends that help me up and are always at hand reach if I need them! As cheesy as that may sound, I am really thankful for my friends and today I have seemed to reflect on my blessings more than usual! I am thankful for my 16 1/2 month old who always makes me smile with her sweet smile and funny chuckles. She is continuing to grow so fast and become more and more independent. Also, I am thankful for my hard working husband who works two jobs so I can stay at home with our little sweetheart.

Maybe this weather makes me sappy today, but whatever it is, I know it is important to take time and count your blessings each day! And by the way, I am so ready for fall! I have loved this cool weather day!

Enjoying Spring-like Temps in August

There is nothing like a day at the park with the grandparents. Lydia has gone to two parks this week with both sets of grandparents. Since cool days/nights in August are hard to come by, we took advantage of this weekend and did some swinging, sliding and running around at the parks.

Taking Time to Smell The Flowers

Lydia loves to be outside. She likes riding her Pooh Ride on the driveway and loves to smell the flowers and touch the trees. Whenever she is getting cranky, one trip outside will do the fix! I think that is true for all of us- taking time to smell the flowers and appreciate nature can always put people in a good mood. So enjoy these summer days and try to stay cool!

Beach and Magic Kingdom

We have had a very busy past 2 days here in Florida. On Friday we went to New Samirna Beach and Daytona Beach. Yesterday, (Saturday) we went to Magic Kingdom.
There is no reason for any child growing up in the Orlando region to ever say the worlds, "I am bored." Our family of 3 is officially zonked, wore out, and pooped! Today Josh and Todd ventured to Tampa to see a Tampa Bay baseball game, Lyd and I decided to stay back and rest and do some local shopping.

The beach was very nice and not too busy. Lydia loved the water and got excited when a wave came our way. She liked rolling in the sand and getting her hands all in it. The water was beautiful and warm! We collected a few seashells and had a nice family time.

WDW is crazy....so crowded and strollers everywhere. We arrived very early at Magic Kingdom and waited first in line at the rope. It was really neat and special how they opened the park with a big character greeting. Once we were in the park, we ran (yes ran) to Cinderella's Castle to get to Fantasy Land and be the first group on Dumbo. We rode all the major rides in Fantasyland before 10:00am and then went to meet the Princesses. They were so beautiful and very friendly- Lydia had to touch and talk to all of them. We then went to Frontierland and Adventureland and did some shows and more rides. After lunch, Lydia fell asleep so Josh and I took turns on Splash Mountain. Talk about a drop- it was nuts! Josh loved it, but I thought I was going to have a heart attack! After surviving Splash Mountain, we went on more rides and back to Fantasyland to re-ride some favorites. I could ride "It's a Small World" a hundred times. Lydia kept saying, "Babydolls, Babydolls, ride, ride, ride"

She loved all the dolls dancing and playing! It was my favorite too! We had dinner with the Winnie the Pooh characters. Lydia about jumped over the table (in fear) everytime they came by our table to talk to her. Finally, we had to just motion them on to other tables. She was so terrified of their costumes. She watched them like a hawk and wouldn't eat if they were anywhere in sight. We stayed for the parade and the fireworks. It was such a special time! I am sure Lydia will enjoy us telling her all about it and showing her the pictures and video for years to come!

Nashville, Sea World and Todd's Place

We are here in sunny & humid Florida. Orlando is great, Todd's place is so nice and the area he lives in is just like out of a movie set. I would think we were in Hollywood if I didn't know better. He lives in Orlando but not in the tourist area, he lives on Baldwin Park Lake area and it is really cool. Lots of neat shops: like a place you can go to make your own fudge and a cute children's boutique and brick laid streets everywhere.

Lydia is enjoying everything, she loves to investigate Todd's many things. We are teaching him the ways of childproofing a home. Thursday she loved Sea World more than we could have ever imagined. We were there for 12 hours and she was a major champ. She took a couple of short naps, clapped at all the shows, squeeled with glee and waved to all the animals. The shows were incredible. Lydia loved Shamu and the dolphins and especially Seasme Street Live. We took her to meet Elmo before the show and she loved him from afar, but close up was another story. It was a great day, espeically as a practice run for WDW on Saturday.

We started our trip on Tuesday by staying the night in Nashville. We swam at the hotel pool and then we visited with our good pals David and Maggie. They haven't changed a bit. Maggie is still sweet as pie and David, well David is David-hillarious! Lydia has enjoyed seeing our buddies. She loved hanging with them Tuesday night and loves following Todd around everywhere with her arms up for him to hold her.

First Car Date

Lydia and I enjoyed being with the lovely Pogue sisters today....it was just like old times except for the fact 7 children were around!!!

I was glad that Lydia got to be around such handsome future boyfriend prospects today. Miles and Samuel both wanted to take Lydia on her First Car Date.

She is one lucky girl to have so many sweet young boys to grow up around!

Easy Recipe Thursday (even though it is Saturday)
Check out Terri's blog for her yummy Strawberry cake, it is so "good"- "one of those deserts you have at a friend's house and never forget good"
I am sure the other faithful friends that contribute to the Easy Recipe Thursday also have good ones this week too! Here goes one of my favorite easy summer deserts:

***BANANA PINEAPPLE CAKE ***

3 cups plain flour
2 cups sugar (you could do 1 cup splenda, 1 cup reg.sugar)
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 8 oz. can crushed pineapple with juice
1 ½ cups oil (or applesauce for less fat)
3 eggs
1 ½ tsps. vanilla
2 cups diced bananas

Mix all ingredients together. (Do not use mixer- So EASY!)
Put in greased and floured tube pan or bundt pan.
Bake at least 1 hour and 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
Cool completely before removing from pan.
Good with cream cheese icing drizzled over it or plain!

The weather was not very friendly for the Fourth. We were sad not to see the fireworks with our buddies who found shelter under the stadium. Since we couldn't find parking, our family of three was able to view the beautiful WKU fireworks from a dorm parking lot. Atleast we didn't get wet! Those of you who did get to see them together- so sorry we didn't make it! Maybe next year we can do our ice-cream & firework sharing like I had hoped!

Catching Up at 14 Months

Due to some camera/computer difficulties, I was unable to post much last month. Here is a collage of happenings during the month of June during Lydia's 14th month:

A "Staycation" and Small Vacation

With the raging gas prices and big grocery bills, all of us are trying to save money this summer. I thank everyone for their great vacation recommendations. We still may travel far one day in the future, but for this week we have found ways to have fun while not going too far.

Today my parents came to BG to spend some time with us and we decided to have a little "staycation." For those of you that haven't heard of this term on the news lately, click here:

It is nice to take advantage of places in your back door. Lydia LOVES to ride along in the stroller and seeing the outdoors. Today we traveled to BG's own Lost River Cave trails.

We went to the cave, listened to the tour guide give some interesting facts, and went to the Butterfly habitat. We walked there from my favorite park, The Bark Park, (which has a great playground and lots of shade). It was so nice to spend a couple of hours in BG, learn something new, allow Lydia to see some cool things, and NOT waste gas along the way.

Wed-Friday, we traveled to our old stomping grounds of Georgetown. We had a super stay in a real good deal from priceline that allowed us to get a very nice corporate suite for a low price (GO PRICELINE!) and got to visit my old school and church friends. Lydia was even asked to be in a wedding coming up next summer!!! We had a great time. Below is a picture of Lydia with two of my best friends children, Anna Pryor and Blaine. It was like yesterday that these kidos were born, and now they are growing so tall! AP turned 3 in Dec. and Blaine turned 1 last October. They are so smart and cute! Lydia really enjoyed playing with them!

Taking Vacation Recommendations

We are trying to think of a fun getaway- first family vacation- to take in the next few weeks.
I would love recommendations on nice places all of my blogger moms have been. We have been leaning towards Charleston, SC or Destin, FL. These two are not set in stone and we may not even go anywhere, but we are thinking about it. We were fortunate to go to many places before Lydia came along. Now that a 13 month old is in the picture, we seem to be searching for a place to fit all of our needs (meaning not too far of a drive).

So I would love some ideas. Places, hotels, etc....

Can we slow it down, please!

Every time I turn around my baby is becoming less and less a baby....she is all over the place walking, eating everything, and jabbering. I am so amazed by the quickness a life forms and develops. I always heard, "If you blink, they will be all grown up." I definitely know now that people are not exaggerating.

Just take a look at these three little beauties from the end of last summer to now- how quickly they are growing:

I am sure all of you parents can relate. But can you tell me how to slow this down? I am considering writing up a contract for her to place an X on, promising me that she will always live with her Mommy and Daddy. I am not saying she can't marry- he can live with us too!

Seeing History...

Today Lydia went to see history being made with the first female Presidential candidate.

There was a large crowd, but everyone seemed to have a good view.

Daddy tried to get a picture of Lydia with Hillary but wasn't able. But they did get up close enough here for an autograph.

Daddy did get Lydia's button autographed by Hillary though, and Lydia didn't want to part with it. She fell asleep holding it on the way home.

I won't get into politics, but it was good to have Lydia see some history in the making (although she won't really remember it- without these pics for her photo album)!

Oh the joys of motherhood...Today, I have been chasing my new one year old around the house as she opens and shuts doors. I do wonder what she thinks she will do in her room all alone without her mommy! Maybe she has some secrets to tell her stuffed animals, maybe she wants to line up her shoes for the week, who knows! For real, I thought keeping Mom out wasn't supposed to start until teenage years!

Today is the most special day. A year ago Lydia Ann joined our family and has been the most wonderful bundle of joy since! She has blessed our lives with her sweet, friendly personality and loving heart. Her father and I have enjoyed every moment shared with her. She has made us better people and the most lucky parents on Earth! We are truly blessed to have gotten the privilege to be her parents.

Lydia was born in Lexington on a beautiful sunny day at 5:40pm est. Monday, April 23, 2007. She was greeted by aunts and grandparents and many friends. I will never forget how I wanted to savor the moment that they put her in my arms. I wanted that moment to last forever. I was so excited. Josh was very natural at being a daddy from the start. He immediately started singing "Jesus Loves Lydia" to her as they cleaned her up because that is what he had been singing to her for 9 months. He wanted to make sure she knew her daddy was right beside her. He continues to be a tremendous help and wonderful father.

Every month I have said that "This is my favorite month with her." The truth is I have loved every month and with each new month comes something new to her and to me as a mother.

As she is walking, exploring everything, getting new bumps and bruises, jabbering and waving at everyone and everything, I can say that the most wonderful job in the world is: Being a Mom! I love this new role in my life and am so glad that I can never retire from this job. Being able to teach her, mold her, and most important let her be herself is so rewarding! She is lucky to have so many wonderful family members and close friends that will help shape her along the way!

Busy Baby

Lydia is now 9 1/2 months. She had a great 9 month check up with Dr.Patty. She is a very happy and healthy baby. She is weighing in at 20.2 lbs and is about 29 in long. She claps on demand and is starting to hug on demand. She loves cheerios and is eating more table food. Last night she tried some spaghetti and loved it. She is cruising all around the furniture. She has found the front door window and the piano keys and loves to look outside and bang on the window of the door looking for Daddy. She is playing the piano and is almost ready for a concert recital! HA!! She keeps us on our toes and most important, keeps us smiling and proud!

The Big 3-0!!!!!!!!!

So today I am no longer in my "twenties" but have jumped into a new group of numbers. When I was little my parents watched the show, "Thirtysomething" and I remember that being about a bunch of old messed up people. I don't feel any older or different. I do have gray hair coming in on the sides that I like to pull out frequently and hope that the expense of coloring my hair can wait another 10 years down the road.

Anyway...
I had a great birthday. Josh and Lydia got me an MP3 player which I am addicted to putting songs on it. I have already stored over 120 songs on my library on the computer. I am loving finding my favorites and hearing some new favorites. I went to sleep last night listening to it. I love music! The inlaws had my family over for dinner last night and my sweet MIL made me all my favorites. It was so yummy. My mom took me shopping and I got some new clothes. I got a sewing basket with goodies to go along with my sewing machine from my MIL. My sweet buddies, Tonya/Eric and Valerie/Matt along with our sweet girls went out to celebrate tonight at Montana Grill. Tomorrow I will continue the celebrating and spend the day with my sister.

I have had wonderful memories during these first 30 years. I have super family and friends who have helped make those memories so special! Thanks ya'll!!!
I look forward to celebrating and making new memories during the next 30 (and then some) years!

BTW, I want to wish a very special HAPPY Birthday to Amy Kate, who turns 26 today and Isaac who turns the big 3 years old! I am glad we get to have our special days at the same time!

Well I got my first sewing machine for Christmas and have high hopes on being crafty like my friends Larie, Valerie, Maggie, and Heather. With a simple "napkin demonstration" lesson from Heather on how to make a little taggie thing, I was off to conquer my first stitch. I had to enlist my mother-in-law to help supervise my endeavor. And after a few mess-ups and back stitching, I finally made a little gift for my soon to be nephew due in the coming weeks:

Our G-town Friends

We went to visit friends up in G-town last weekend. It was so good to be with everyone. I have one friend, Erica, who is having twins and I am so EXCITED! She looks absolutely beautiful and will be a great mom to twins this summer. I also got to be with my friend, Courtney and her sweet 2 year old, Anna Pryor. Here is a picture of us. We taught together and have had so much fun being moms. I miss them so much, but am lucky that we talk very often on the phone.

Lydia turns nine months old today! I can't believe how time has flown with each new milestone comes more changes...

Crawling:

I am trying to childproof our home as much as possible. It is is crazy how many little corners and messes she gets herself into. Crawling has been so exciting. She started scooting around during months 6 and 7 and during her 8th month, she started crawling everywhere and following me all over the house.

LA has been finding all kinds of things to pull up on. She loves to pull up on my leg and stand when I am sitting down. She loves to pull up on all the furniture and her once-used exersaucer. Cruising has just started and she likes to hold on to the side of the couch and walk. She walks very well with help in holding her hands. Sitting down is a thing of the past, she wants to go, go, go! For the past 3 days she has been letting go and stading for a few seconds on her own.

Food:

Lydia loves her bottle, not too keen on the sippy cup we are trying. She would rather eat table food now than baby jar food (although squash and sweet potatoes are still her favorite). Yesterday she went to town eating a multigrain tortilla.

Teeth:

One tooth has been poked out a little for a while now. It is on the bottom on her left side. She has been having all the symptoms of teething quite a bit for a while now, we are ready for those other hiding teeth to come on out!

Having fun:

I love to see her so happy playing with all of her Christmas toys. She loves her Fisher Price music/mirror stage, learning home, and playing with socks. Yes, I did say socks! She can be occupied for hours if you give her a sock. She loves music and claps all the time.

What a joy motherhood is! Josh and I love being parents and our baby girl makes our days so blessed and exciting! She is loved by so many and has so many wonderful family members and friends to grow up with in the coming years. Her ONE YEAR birthday is coming quick, I love cherishing each moment.

Tonight's the Night....

Santa is coming tonight and oh will he bring lots of gifts! Lydia has been such a good little girl and we are so excited to lay out our milk and cookies for Santa and get in bed fast so that he can come. We hope to get a glimpse of him and his 8 reindeer! 7 3/4 Months Old

Lydia is almost 8 months. She has had a very fun and playful time during her 7th month. This has been one of my favorite times to watch her grow, play and interact. She has a very fun personality and loves to entertain and be entertained. She gets very excited to be with friends, cousins, and grandparents. She is going through a hair pulling stage (so sorry to all her friends) because she gets so excited to see everyone that she just can't contain her happiness. She is rolling, sitting up, saying "hieeee" and smiles most every moment. She loves to fly in the air, splash in the bathtub, listen to her daddy read books, and put everything in her mouth. Her favorite two things right now are her Johnny Jumper and Pappy (The O's family dog). We fall more in love with her each day and am sure that everyday will be our favorite with our very happy bundle of JOY!

Santa Claus is Coming to Town...

Today we took advantage of a free picture with Santa at Walmart. It wasn't a great Santa, but it was free and there was not a line. I believe that they are doing free pictures with Santa the next 3 Sat/Sun. from 10-2. They print your pictures right away in the photo lab. We are so excited to have our first Christmas with our baby girl!

Josh and I decorated this past weekend. Boy is it a chore decorating the house for Christmas. I was so glad to be finished late Sat. night. I believe the new parents in us made us eager to get the tree up and ready for Lydia to explore. She likes it but thinks that the singing snowman is the coolest decoration in the house. Halloween Night

Lydia had a great Halloween Trunk or Treating at church. She thought her Aunt and Uncle looked more cool than scary. Zoe, Garrett and Brayden looked cute too with their costumes! Our little Zebra got tuckered out pretty early from all the fun!

Ok, so here are my fun 8 facts:

1. I love the singer Kasey Chambers, www.kaseychambers.com, I even considered naming my child (if it were a boy) after her boy's name: Tallon. I have seen her in concert twice, front row both times and adore her!

2. I taught fifth grade for two years and first grade for four years. Loved them both and loved each day of teaching.

3. I have a crazy fear of storms (especially tornado watches/warnings).

4. I have traveled to 8 countries: Canada, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, England, Scotland, El Salvador(for a short five min.) and Hong Kong.

5. My daughter's bedroom was also the room of her grandmother (in the 70's) and my room during college.

6. I enjoyed pregnancy and labor and can't wait to do it again! I can attest that breaking a leg in three places is more painful than labor....ok, I did have an epidural.

7. While dating, Josh and I spontaneously left BG for Atlanta, just to eat dinner- Pappadeux's, try it if you are ever there.

8. I do not like fried chicken! I will not eat it with a goat, I will not eat it on a boat!!!

Half a Year Already!

Our Lydibug is already 6 months old! I can't believe it and am a little sad that she is changing so fast. I am proud and happy for her milestones that she reaches, however I know that the little bitty thing I brought home from the hospital isn't as little bitty anymore. She has richly blessed our lives and has been a joy each day. We love her smiles and laughs and everything that she is!

Scoot, Scoot!

Lydia is scooting everywhere. In no time she is off her blanket on the floor and rolling and scooting all over the place. Crawling will come next and oh, how are our lives will change!

At one moment she is in the middle of her blanket, and the next she has found her way off to new adventures.

She soon discovers that the coolest place in the room is under the couch.

She understands "crawling position" but can't get the motion just yet!

Louisville Zoo

We have had a great couple of weeks! Josh has been on fall break and we have traveled to the Louisville Zoo with the Lowe clan and also to Gatlinburg with the Owens clan. Lydia has loved being around her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. We are so blessed to have made such wonderful memories. Enjoy the slides of both trips.

Lydia and her cousin Ally are 13 months apart. It is so sweet to see how much they light up around each other. It is like they know already that they will be friends for life! I am so glad that they are so close in age and I know that they will have many wonderful memories made together just like my sister and I have.

Lydia turned 4 months old yesterday! She is a very happy little bundle of joy! She had a great checkup, weighing in at 15 lbs 7 oz and 24 1/4 inches long. It has been a wonderful 4 months watching her grow and change. We are very thankful for each day with her and look forward to many more!

Lydia's daddy put together her exersaucer yesterday and she really enjoyed playing in it. She may have been a little ovewhelmed with all the choices for play on it, but nonetheless, she seemed to really like it!

Lydia loves her Aunt Sara and Uncle Darren. She seems to light up when they come to visit. Uncle Darren loves to play with her "monkey toes" and Aunt Sara is so good at helping her fly in the air ever so slowly!
