Taking Vacation Recommendations

We are trying to think of a fun getaway- first family vacation- to take in the next few weeks.
I would love recommendations on nice places all of my blogger moms have been. We have been leaning towards Charleston, SC or Destin, FL. These two are not set in stone and we may not even go anywhere, but we are thinking about it. We were fortunate to go to many places before Lydia came along. Now that a 13 month old is in the picture, we seem to be searching for a place to fit all of our needs (meaning not too far of a drive).

So I would love some ideas. Places, hotels, etc....

Thanks!

Are you kidding? We haven't vacationed in a LONG time! :) Actually, we went to Destin with my parents when MJ was 3 and Noah was 6 months...shared a 2 bedroom condo, but I have no idea what the name of the place was. Destin is a fun place and not too bad a drive. I would love to go to Charleston, so I'd love to see your pictures if you go! Sorry, I'm no help at all!

We have taken Allison to the Smokey Mountains and to Branson. Branson has resorts with water parks. Allison enjoyed this, but there's not much more. This year we are off to the water park capitol of the world - the Wisconsin Dells and with the other grandparents we are going to Savannah, GA and the beach. I don't know if that helps. We haven't been a whole lot of places with the kids yet.

Go to Myrtle Beach with us next weekend =). It's quite a drive but well worth the effort!

As soon as I started to read your post, the first place that popped into my mind was Charleston, SC. And then I read on to discover that is one of the destinations that you are considering! I have been to Charleston 3 times and have loved it each time. I can say that I have never been there with a child, but I do remember each time seeing plenty of children and lots of tourists with strollers. Let us know where you decide to go and ENJOY!!!!

We were only in Charleston for a day but we loved it. We took one of the horse drawn carriage tours that told a lot about the city, which I thought was really interesting. You could stay a few days in Charleston and then a few days on one of the nearby beaches and have the best of both worlds! We stopped in Charleston on our way to Hilton Head, which I also highly reccomend. It's just a further drive. :(

I know that Terri already mentioned Branson.... but we LOVED it. We didn't go to waterparks, but we were able to swim at Chateau on the Lake. They have shows that kids can attend, shopping, golf (Matt enjoyed this), hikes, mountain views, a beach area and much more. It does take over 8 hours to drive there... which is like $200 of gas.
I, like others have said, love Destin and Charleston. Myrtle Beach is nice too!
I'm sure that wherever you decided to travel that you will have a wonderful time being with your family!

You could do the Great Smoky Mountains which isn't very far away, about a 4 hour drive OR drive down to the Destin area which would be very worth the drive! Heather and I took the kids and it is just beautiful down there. We actually stayed in a place called Seaside/Seagrove which is about 20 miles from Destin that is more private/family oriented without all the tourism. That is my vacation spot of choice! You would love it! Kennedy did fine with the 8+ hour drive, just make sure to stop a time or two to let them eat and stretch out! We need to get together soon, by the way! :)

I will add that we have lots of friends who LOVE Kiawah, which is an island close to Charleston. It's a wildlife sanctuary so the beaches are protected, it's not built up and commercialized like most places. If you want more info, I can get it...email me smalling7@bellsouth.net

Good luck and have fun. I'm not jealous AT ALL :)
